Space Center Visitor Complex. Bringing to life the epic story of

The Opportunity Perform duties to build, install, maintain, and
operate exhibits, performing diagnostic and repair operations to
electronic equipment/units. Individual technician may specialize in
specific technology such as audio, video, computer, or
This position is with an emphasis in scenic painting and
construction in addition to performing general maintenance
Scenic Painting & Construction Duties
Touch-up painting, maintenance, and modifications on themed items
including scenic exhibits and displays. Majority of duties include
touch up paint due to wear.
General carpentry and power tool operation
Carpentry including small displays, structural fiberglass repairs,
and smaller specialty pieces (i.e, small display case or monitor
Prepare for tasks or projects by learning the scope of work and
prepping appropriate tools for assignment. Scraping, sanding,
filling and otherwise preparing surfaces of project.
Set up and clean-up of work area.
Color match and mix paint to achieve desired visual effects.
Scenic treatments including, but not limited to, automotive finish,
faux finish, texturing, ageing, distressing, and general working
ability in both latex and scenic paint.
Paint 2-D and 3-D scenic work.
Work on elevated surfaces and aerial platforms.
Install new exhibits, renovate and clean existing exhibits, and
change out defective exhibit elements.
Perform a wide range of trades and operations such as electrical
wiring, carpentry, painting, and structure construction.
Start exhibits, monitor operation, clean and dust electronic
components, set color balance on television monitors, check audio
levels, clean electronic connectors, visually inspect exhibits, and
Conduct system analysis and diagnose malfunctions working to the
component level. Replace assemblies with spare parts.
Diagnose and repair defective assemblies, replace or repair
components, test operation, and place unit in spares inventory.
Align and adjust systems, subsystems, and assemblies to ensure
proper operation. Repair cabinetry and static displays using a wide
range of materials and operations including Formica, patching with
bondo or fiberglass, gluing, soldering, welding, screwing, sanding,
Maintain and repair tools and equipment.
Precision test measuring devices.
Prepare requisitions for parts and materials required to install
and maintain exhibits and assist to locate supply sources.
Education: Associates Degree in Electronics Technology.
Experience: Five years of related experience with the Associates
Degree or eight years of equivalent experience in lieu of
Skills: Able to read and interpret written information. Some
knowledge of electricity and mechanics. Able to use hand and hand
power tools, soldering iron, heat gun, saws, fork lift truck,
pallet jack, hydraulic lift, sanders, paint spray equipment and
electronic test and measurement devices. Able to write and edit
exhibit related software.
Physical Demands:Requires the physical equivalent of exerting
effort of lifting and carrying or manipulating of materials and
equipment weighing 1 to 5 pounds up to 70% of the day and 5 to 25
pounds up to 10% of the day and up to 50 pounds with some
regularity. Requires bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing,
stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Requires close, highly
concentrated mental and visual attention to work along with
coordination of precise manual dexterity for sustained periods.
