The Opportunity: -The Utility Meter Technician is responsible for testing, installation, calibration, maintenance, and documentation of all electric, chilled water, and hot water metering to ensure accurate revenue-grade metering recovery to each utility department.
Responsibilities: - -Metering Equipment Repair & Installation

  • Repair or replace existing chilled water meters, hot water meters, and electric meters.
  • Repair or replace existing chilled and hot water metering and associated totalizers.
  • Manage, as the primary point of contact, all calibration and testing of chilled and hot water metering devices as needed.
  • Coordinate all outages and assist contractors as needed to repair, replace lines or hardware necessary to reinstall and test chilled and hot water metering.
  • Assist with the selection of appropriate meter style and size for service application.
  • Assist fellow technician(s) with water and natural gas meters as needed, including assistance with development, troubleshooting, and technical evaluation of metering setup, measurement, and programming assistance.
    Utility Meter Calibrations & Preventative Maintenance
    • Ongoing detailed data collection of metering and transmitter information to ensure accuracy for billing, including, but not limited to validating what areas/equipment/assets are served by meter as well as determination of meter type (Parent/Master/Submeter/Virtual).
    • Review and analyze historical monthly and hourly data as required to preventively assess and correct metering errors/failures.
    • Assist with all phases of meter reading as needed.
    • Assist billing as required with recheck readings, field checks, testing, and evaluation to confirm the accuracy or correct errors.
    • Assist with technical work or troubleshooting of fixed network, and smart grid system hardware as directed.
      Technical Programming
      • Program BTU meters to department standards to properly read consumption for revenue grade billing purposes.
      • Familiarity with development and estimations of mathematical readings and conversions between ton-hours and BTU's, as well as other units of energy and demand measurement for chilled water.
      • Knowledge of BacNET and assist controls group with setup, connections, and testing of all communication at the meter for the BAS.
      • Assist with programming and local data retrieval of stored load profile information from all electronic amplifiers, correctors, or other electronic metering for water, sewer, gas and electric meters as needed.
      • Serve as a technical lead and authority for all energy calculations and measurements.
        Review & Inspection
        • Assist project work for review of proper meter placement and application as well as reading blueprints and working closely with other departments to complete new or replacement meter work per manufacturer standards.
        • Ensure all Meter Worksheets are completed accurately at the point of interconnection and/or energizing/pressurizing.
        • Ensure all Meter Worksheets are turned in for all new or replacement meters or transmitters, sensors or other smart grid/fixed network devices.
        • Review historical blueprints/historical as-builts to validate metering captures proper energy usage for buildings, individual spaces, or sites, validating that all consumption is metered accurately with no loss our double billing/metering. --- Validate all metering installed or replaced meets departmental standards.
        • Responsible for management and ongoing development of chilled water and electric meter Preventative Maintenance program to ensure high accuracy revenue-grade utility metering and utilize benchmarking and interval data from EnergyCAP, BAS, and OEIS to detect patterns of potential meter or site-related issues affecting the measurement.
          Administrative/General
          • Document, scan, upload, and preserve meter worksheets, Inventory/GIS Based Images and information, as well as calibration sheets, test results, and contractor work/results/documentation on UES Share Drive.
          • Maintain stock of manuals, specification sheets, and other relevant manufacturer detail on UES Share Drive for field use and future needs.
          • Document all work via AiM Work Order Management System and EnergyCAP.

            Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience.
            Preferred Qualifications: -
            • Understanding of AC/DC circuits, testing, and ability to fully use and describe the functionality of multimeter.
            • Familiarity and understanding of single vs three-phase electrical services and electrical metering technology.
            • Familiarity with and previous experience selecting and installing appropriate conduits and connections for running control wiring between devices, as well as tracing/identifying/and pulling wiring for termination.
            • Understanding of energy units and metric conversions and calculations.
            • Familiarity with the use of technical applications for business including remote desktop, Microsoft Excel, File Transfer Protocol (FTP), and various communication terminations and technologies.
            • Understanding of general networking.
            • Management skills such as planning, organizing, and controlling with emphasis on fieldwork and remote access.
            • Working knowledge of trades classifications and functions including tools, materials, and task-specific sequencing.
            • Demonstrated working knowledge of all applicable Federal, State, and local safety rules and regulations, including OSHA, Dept. of Health, and the Bureau of Fire Safety.
            • Previous experience in large complex organizations with exposure to facilities management.
            • Ability to understand, communicate, apply, and enforce UCF guidelines, regulations, and policies.
            • Ability to interpret and prepare reports, inspections, and documentation pertinent to the unit.
