The Opportunity: -The Controls Specialist III provides advanced technical skills for installing (retro/commissioning), troubleshooting, repairing, and programming of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and ancillary electronic equipment that is essential to the control of campus building HVAC equipment.
Responsibilities:

  • Perform independent advanced analysis on complex building automation systems (BAS). Program, develop, install, repair, replace and recalibrate BAS controllers, terminal devices, and ancillary components to maintain continuously commissioned HVAC BAS controls. -
  • Perform control device troubleshooting, repairs, and replacements which include relays, sensors, actuators, airflow stations, BTU meters, and utility meters.
  • Develop advanced digital control systems that provide improved operational performance. Develop proposals and provide enhancement recommendations for actions on building automation modernization projects.
  • Perform continuous updates and improvements to system front-end graphics, back-end programming, and parametric configurations, databases and, networks. Provide technical data and services to the HVAC and Controls areas and other University departments relative to projects. Identify technical system issues and implement solutions accordingly. -
  • Identify and resolve sequence of operation deficiencies; Develop, design, and analyze technical solutions through an appropriate blending of knowledge and business solutions.
  • Prioritize and respond to assigned HVAC and Controls systems work orders and service requests pertaining to complex inquiries, comfort complaints, and indoor air quality-related matters. -
  • Administer, maintain, and develop UCF's Building Automation Specifications.
  • Provide technical support to Controls Specialist I and II's; Provide programming development support for Energy Services retro-commissioning projects; Provide programming and development support for HMI visualization.

    Minimum Qualifications: - -High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6+ years of relevant experience.
    Preferred Qualifications: -
    • HVAC Technician Certification EPA Clean Air Section 608.
    • Experience in repair and maintenance of digital building control systems/Or HVAC/R.
    • Extensive experience as an HVAC Controls Technician with digital building control system knowledge in large, modern, commercial or Government office buildings in operations and maintenance.
    • Experience with Research Methods and Laboratories including BSL 2 & BSL 3, Vivarium, Clean Rooms, Precision Metrology, Wet Labs and BSL2P.
    • Strong computer literacy. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) and other computer programs like Auto CAD.
    • Advanced understanding of HVAC controls theory and concepts; including the sequence of operations review, design, implementation, operation, and testing.
    • Ability to remain assertive and decisive when handling delicate and problematic situations with customers and co-workers.
    • Proficient in the use of Building Management Systems software such as Siemens Design, Trane, Tracer Ensemble, enteliWEB, and webCTRL.
    • Experience with Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS).
    • Apply general knowledge of applicable information technology and the impact of work with other systems and programs.
    • Knowledge of HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, air compressors, fans, and pumps.
    • Skill in the use and safety of hand and power tools and machines.
    • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
    • Ability to read and understand printed processes, circuits, and electrical schematics.
    • Ability to troubleshoot electronic and pneumatic controls. -
    • Knowledge of programming, graphics creation, editing, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
