Job Description
Position Purpose
The primary responsibility of this position is to collaborate with
Operations & Health & Safety teams to develop, seek approval, and
successfully implement Capital Equipment Projects, primarily
focused on Zero Harm Initiatives in accordance with established
schedule, cost, and performance standards. Initial focus will be on
implementing advanced safety controls and guarding systems on
production equipment, as well as implementing effective
Forklift/Pedestrian Segregation, and other Employee Wellness
initiatives throughout our Service Center Network.
Location: Remote Based, US; must be reasonably located near a major
airport & willing to travel up to 50%

Number of Locations: Over 100 Service Centers
Major/Key Accountabilities
Manage activities associated with capital project execution to
include equipment layout and scope development, requests for quote,
project justifications, purchase order generation, contractor
selection, on-site supervision during the installation and start-up
of equipment, and proper tagging and accounting of new
equipment.
Using fiduciary controls, manage capital budgets, and accurately
forecast monthly spending
Lead critical reviews of equipment design, layouts, pallet flow,
and safety zoning in collaboration with Engineering, Operations,
Maintenance Reliability, and Safety teams to ensure alignment with
scope and project objectives,
Evaluate Workstation Risk Assessments to provide a workable
solution to achieve 100% Acceptable Risk
Ensure that all necessary safe work practices are adhered to by
both CHEP and contractor personnel, and all applicable local
municipality construction permitting, and environmental
requirements are met.
Effective and timely communications to Key Stakeholders of ZH
Program Status, beginning with project development and approval,
through final commissioning and qualification.
Utilization of the FAT, CQV, and Vertical Startup Processes with
Suppliers and Operations teams, to ensure successful, timely
project completion
Coordinate training of on-site personnel as needed for system
operation and maintenance. Ensure proper handoff of completed
projects to include as-built drawings, maintenance and operations
manuals, and spare parts lists.
Provide Leadership, guidance, and mentorship to support Engineering
team in establishing and implementing Zero Harm standards
Lead Zero Harm Capital strategy by collaborating with
cross-functional teams and external suppliers in support of longer
terms goals to achieve a touchless pallet processing operation.
Ensure Engineering team alignment with North America Zero Harm
Goals, provide recommendations to Global Safety Standards
Review current safety trends and technologies for potential
implementations in Service Center Network
Measures
The Project Engineer is mutually responsible for supporting the
Supply Chain Team in achieving business objectives through Capital
Equipment deployment. Key metrics:
Employee Development
Achievement of Supply Chain Capital Project Initiatives
Customer satisfaction, implementation timing, within budget
CQV Vertical Startup achievement meeting key KPIs
Authority/ Decision Making
Managing individual capital projects with budgets up to $XXM
Purchasing/Supplier Recommendations
Providing Recommendations to update Equipment, Machine Guarding,
Safety Standards
Resolving Customer/Operations problems through root cause
analysis
Experience
5-10 years project engineering and/or related project management
experience
Required Experience with safety systems integrations (interlocked
fencing, machine guarding, zoning)
Working knowledge of Workstation Risk Assessments, implementing
solutions
Material handling and automation, to include conveyance, robotics
or similar type of equipment
Experience leading initiatives implementing:
ISO-13849-1 and OSHS 29 CFR 1910
Electrical wiring and Rockwell Safety PLC
Process piping, machine guarding principles
Skills/Knowledge
Working use of project management methods and tools such as MS
Project
Working knowledge and use of AutoCAD
Familiarity with conveyor systems, material handling robotics a
plus
Familiar with capital project justification methods (ROI, IRR,
NPV)
Basic financial management skills with a focus on capital
expenditure
Excellent communication skills
Continuous Improvement Methods, Kaizen
