This position is an engineering management role within the Satellite Ground Mission Planning Analysis Department and will report directly to the Software Section Manager.The ideal candidate demonstrates a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. You have the ability to collaborate within and across teams to accomplish goals. You are committed to ethics, integrity, and innovation while challenging traditional ways of doing business. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and you are comfortable engaging with the internal and external customers.Essential Functions:Lead a team of software engineers performing direct work on multiple programsDemonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skillsUse good judgement to pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work closely with program-assigned systems engineering, software development, and management professionals to ensure that the software lifecycle is accomplished with high quality and efficiencyOversee and manage the quality and timeliness of the organization's products, and identification and remediation of potential issues before they become problemsDevelop and manage detailed budgets and schedules and create work assignments for indirect taskingThe successful candidate will have a current full-time Program assignment; with a subset of the time allocated to Functional Manager duties, which fluctuate throughout the year due to business needs and the performance management cycle.Basic Qualifications:One of the following:A Bachelor's Degree in STEM with 5 years of software engineering experienceA Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of software engineering experienceMust demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the software development lifecycle and extensive technical expertise5+ years experience with object oriented programming languagesExceptional leadership skills in order to coordinate collaboration across engineering teamsDemonstrated mastery in various competencies of Teaching, Mentoring, and FacilitationAn Interim or Active Secret clearancePreferred Qualifications:Proven interaction in a distributed team environmentStrong background in software testing, troubleshooting, and the process of the Software Review BoardAn advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other STEM disciplinePrior experience in engineering functional management is a plusProven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skillsDemonstrate exemplary professionalism and ability to maintain composure in stressful situationsDemonstrate strong team-building/collaboration skillsDemonstrated ability to build diverse/inclusive teams with engaged team membersDemonstrated mentoring and coaching skills, and excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward)Previous experience leading a team of 5-12 employees with a record of on-time performancePrevious experience in developing proposal inputs (task descriptions and basis of estimate)Time management and organizational skills to prioritize across concurrent program and functional responsibilitiesPrior experience with performing software development using agile methodologiesPrior experience with using Atlassian tool suiteSalary Range: $106,400 USD - $159,600 USDEmployees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
