Environmental Health & Safety Specialist position serves as a
training coordinator to ensure that the university's safety
training needs are met. It develops, implements and manages the
comprehensive laboratory, environmental management, and workplace
safety training programs to protect people and the environment.
Administers the EHSA database. Develops and designs informational
web and print media for the EHS department.Responsibilities:
- Applies elements of the systematic approach of analysis,
design, development, implementation, and evaluation to on-line and
classroom-based training for laboratory, environmental management,
fire safety and workplace safety programs.
- Interfaces with Webcourses, other learning management systems,
and/or other web-based course systems to manage the assignment,
tracking, and completion of required training courses.
- Conducts lecture or hands-on training as needed.
- Maintains training data and records in accordance with
department procedures.
- Designs instructional materials using storyboards, flow charts,
course authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate, and productivity
software such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases &
presentation tools.
- Serves as a liaison and works collaboratively within the
academic community, campus, and regulatory subject matter experts
to identify training objectives and design effective learning and
testing materials using appropriate learning theories and
strategies.
- Maintains, monitors, troubleshoots the training section of the
PowerDMS, EHSA database by developing and auditing policies,
procedures, and controls to ensure proper and reliable training
data.
- Provides support and training in the use of the EHSA database,
including orientation for all new staff and specialized training in
response to changing roles, business processes, and database
functionality.
- Uses EHSA queries to create training data and reports.
- Coordinates public relations and/or marketing functions to
communicate with and inform entities of training and departmental
programs.
- Updates EHS website.
- Develops EHS branding and design standards, create promotional
and informational print materials, and update current department
documents and/or printed materials.
- Collects and analyzes data related to evaluation scores and
course feedback to continuously improve training courses and
program.
- Researches emerging technologies and strategies and to
facilitate the training goals of the department.
- Maintains familiarity with copyright and intellectual property
standards, Section 508 and ADA policies for technology and
accessibility.
- Provides support as essential personnel as the need
arises.
- Other duties as required in accordance with the needs of the
department.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's or Master's degree and
2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of
education and experiencepursuant to .Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Health,
Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, or other related
field.
