The Registered Nurse (ICU) can demonstrate an integration of
knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and attitudes to meet the
needs of the most vulnerable patients. Critical care nursing takes
place in settings where the boundaries of specialty practices are
often fluid, due to changing patient needs in the healthcare

require complex assessment and therapies, high-intensity
interventions, and high-level, continuous nursing vigilance.

provide coverage for the Rapid Response Nurse (RRN). The RRN
utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement,
and evaluate interventions applied across all inpatient units,
demonstrating leadership through mentoring inpatient nursing staff
and providing clinical oversight of the Telemetry Health
Technicians. The RRN implements the Rapid Response Team protocols
to improve the efficiency of patient care in emergency situations
and serves as the nursing lead, in collaboration with the medical
team, during cardiac arrest/code blue events. This RN completes
pro-active rounding, evaluates early warning scores, and
communicates with clinical staff to prevent unnecessary transfers,
patient decline, and increased morbidity and mortality in the
inpatient population. The RRN represents the organization as an
institutional quality champion by identifying process issues and
gaps in practice and using quality improvement tools to recommend
change, fostering an environment of continuous quality improvement
through data collection, data interpretation, and action planning.
The RRN is a steward of the OVAHCS Infection Control program and
assists in the education and enforcement of Infection Control
practices throughout the inpatient setting.
