Title Experienced Collections Manager Description



The Collections Manager is responsible overseeing the collections process and maintaining SAFCO delinquency rates, repossession rates, and loss objectives for their assigned team while adhering to Company policies and procedures.




  • Supervise a team of Credit Advisors to achieve Company collections goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of the Credit Advisors through direction, training, and feedback monitoring.
  • Monitor their team's collections calls and active call statistics, and perform account reviews.
  • Manage difficult calls and customer complaints, along with refusals to pay.
  • Review accounts and issue for repossession as deemed appropriate.
  • Review accounts for deferrals and due date changes.
  • Make decisions on short payoffs, loan modifications and due date changes.
  • Create team schedules and approve time off for team members.
  • Monitor the team's workflow to ensure account collection is timely, effective, and appropriate.
  • Train Credit Advisors to adhere to Company policies and guidelines to reduce the possibility of legal exposure.
  • Collaborate with Collections Analytics Manager to help manage dialer campaigns and related strategy to maximize the performance of the Collections department.
  • Assist the Senior Director of Collections with reviewing and writing collection procedures.
  • Review, monitor, and critique the daily workload of the collections team.
  • Complete quarterly performance conversations, counseling sessions, and/or disciplinary write-ups.
  • Conduct interviews and assist with the hiring, termination, and discipline decisions affecting Credit Advisors and Skiptracers.
  • Act as the Manager-On-Duty (MOD) as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as required.

    Skills


    • Written Communication --- Ability to write reports, correspondence, manuals, or response letters to customers.
    • Verbal Communication --- Ability to speak to individuals and groups, influence results, and respond to questions.
    • Budgetary Development --- Position does not have budgetary responsibility.
    • Project Management --- Position works as part of a team that receives direction from the Director of Collections.
    • Computer Skills --- Proficient, ability to utilize ParaData system, MS Word, MS Excel software, or other technical applications and systems at an intermediate level, as needed.
    • Language Skills --- Bilingual/Trilingual (basic) skills preferred to interact with customers.


      Core Competencies


      • Job Knowledge --- Requires advance knowledge of collections and team building skills acquired through 5-7 years of prior job experience or education. One year of supervisory experience also required. Proficient ability in skip tracing and Internet use.
      • Problem Solving Skills --- Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form and to deal with problems involving some variables in standardized situations.
      • Level of Persuasion And/Or Influencing Of Others --- Ability to effectively present ideas, facilitate group decision making process, or negotiate solutions with internal and/or external customers.
      • Coaching, Mentoring, Or Counseling --- Frequently involved in coaching and mentoring other collections team members.
      • Mental Effort --- Requires individual to frequently juggle shifting priorities and deadlines and deal with various complex issues at a departmental or functional level.
      • Level of Independent Judgment Or Discretion --- Makes decisions that are a result of the individual---s exercise of discretion, and independent judgment, and are subject to review by another individual.


        Education/Experience


        • Associates degree and 5 to 7 years experience.
        • Any equivalent combination or experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

            • Not exposed to dangerous chemicals or other toxic substances.
            • Sometimes is exposed to hot weather during visits to dealership customers.
