Job Description The primary role of this position is to maintain targeted customer service levels and drive out domestic and international transportation costs through utilizing industry knowledge, leveraging carrier relationships, and expanding our global presence across the CHEP regions. This role will also be responsible for managing the transportation compliance of all raw materials globally which includes overseeing all documents related to customs, import/export requirements. This candidate will build the strategic roadmap for the Global rollout of the Blue Forest Program for transportation. They will collaborate with Raw Material Procurement Planning teams across multiple regions. This Senior Manager will be responsible for year over year cost savings for all Transformation initiatives Candidate will oversee both domestic and international freight globally for all raw materials and capital equipment movements. Position must maintain and develop key relationships with overseas and domestic carriers and freight forwarders while providing increased customer service levels to internal organizations and global regions. Additionally, this role will be responsible for leading and developing five direct reports. Scope Responsible for annual budget (Blue Forest rollout) Regulatory Compliance of international transportation which includes all import/export documentation retention Holding a relationship with APHIS, USDA, and Border Partrol in US Accountable for ocean, drayage and intermodal freight for all raw materials related to Blue Forest Program Managing and developing five direct reports Building and maintaining relationships with freight forwarders and carriers Cost Management Quarterly RFQs Purchase Orders accuracy and maintenance Transportation & Service KPIs Financial Reporting & Budgeting Major/Key Accountabilities Lead and develop a team of five direct reports to expand team capability beyond current state Manage annual budget of transportation spend (spend will increase as Blue Forest rolls out) Deliver targeted cost savings for Transformation initiatives for CHEP USA and CHEP Global Negotiate commercial terms on carrier agreements Formalize transportation strategy and core carrier network Institute a Global RFP process that is translatable across regions Facilitate carrier on-boarding and sun-setting Maintain relationships with carriers that meet all safety and insurance requirements Collaborate with carriers and internal and global partners to drive overall supply chain efficiencies Drive team performance levels and further integrate carrier freight management through increased use of technology including reporting and systems Develop and define key performance metrics for team, carriers and freight forwarders Create an International Carrier Scorecard to share cross-regionally and with the carriers Establish reporting to share with regions identifying inter-regional activity, savings, and service Ensure all global CHEP freight movements fall within accordance of all federal and global compliance regulations (i.e. - C-TPAT, ISPM-15, INCOTERMS, etc.) Approximately 30% travel required - domestic and international Measures Budget performance Cost per unit shipped Stock outs Lead time Inventory accuracy Service levels Entry accuracy Freight, Demurrage Detention costs Grounding container costs Storage costs Transformation Initiatives Deployment of new transportation modes such as breakbulk Authority/ Decision Making Purchasing decisions Awarding business Onboarding new suppliers Transportation Compliance/Import and Export requirements and documents Risk mitigation Coaching and Counselling of Direct Reports Authorize deviations from plan Recommend and implement cost savings solutions Key contacts Logistics, Operations, Quality, Transportation, Procurement, Finance Brokers, Suppliers, Carrier Base, 3PL Management Groups at Service Centers Qualifications Detailed knowledge of the international transportation industry including ocean, rail, barge, drayage, FCL, LCL, and airfreight Knowledge of standard transportation import and export procedures and US DOT requirements Previous experience conducting global freight RFQs Advanced experience with international transportation pricing methods and practices, customs entry processes and brokerage/clearance requirements preferred Demonstrated experience negotiating commercial terms for both master transportation agreements and ad hoc projects with freight forwarders, NVOCCs, customs brokers and steam ship lines Fundamental understanding of CHEP Global Operations and business segments preferred Thorough understanding of the CHEP Network pallet flows and seasonality preferred Desirable Experience in the following areas: SAP BW Access TMS Sales Force Experience Bachelor's degree in a business or technical field preferred 5-7 years' experience in Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain 2+ years' experience with leading/managing people (desired not required) Skills and Knowledge Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of business rules and processes Good problem solving, organization, and time management skills Customer service oriented and able to handle large volumes of inquiries Effective verbal and written communication skills Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), SAP R/3 and Business Warehouse, Salesforce, Power BI Strong attention to detail Preferred Education Bachelors - Logistics ManagementPreferred Level of Work Experience5 - 7 yearsWe are an Equal Opportunity Employer and we are committed to developing a diverse workforce in which everyone is treated fairly, with respect, and has the opportunity to contribute to business success while realizing his or her potential.
