The Opportunity

The College of Graduate Studies seeks a Budget Director I. This position provides planning, management and/or support for budget and financial operations activities including accounting, internal controls and financial systems, budget services, internal and external auditing, procurement and payroll. The Budget Director I serves as a liaison between the unit and key support offices and directs budget related business transactions and handles special situation as they arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the Responsible Fiscal Officer and administers fiscal and accounting functions.
  • Provides financial guidance to the leadership and unit personnel as it relates to the planning, preparation, and execution of department budgets.
  • Presents management with financial alternatives as necessary and formulates plans for implementation.
  • Prepares visual reports that reflect the college's performance across various metrics.
  • Analyzes proposals that support strategic plans for the college/department.
  • Assists in planning, development, and decision-making.
  • Collaborates with leadership to define strategic vision and set college priorities.
  • Assesses new programmatic initiatives, analyzes resource allocation, and determines budgetary implications.
  • Formulates and administers the annual operating budget and performs long-term budget planning.
  • Manages college budget implementation and the preparation of budget allocation documents.
  • Completes variance analyses and college fiscal reporting in accordance with UCF's Standard Budget Ledger (SBL) initiative.
  • Oversees grant administration.
  • Manages audits.
  • Oversees personnel and payroll activities for the college.
  • Develops, implements, and interprets fiscal and accounting policies.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's or Master's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of leadership experience.

    Preferences:

    Experience working in a complex University environment is a plus.

    Demonstrated ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies as well as the ability to explain facts, processes, procedures, and financial concepts to others.

    Experience in preparing annual reports, evaluating budget proposals, and analyzing data to determine the costs and benefits of various program.

    Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to keep confidentiality.

    Experienced in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

    Familiarity with computers and computer systems to support, configure, run reports, enter data, or process information. Prior Workday experience is a plus.

    Ability to work as part of a team environment while developing highly effective and valued professional relationships with peers, colleagues, and cross functional teams and to conduct oneself in an ethical manner.
