Job Description:


The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and has administrative oversight of the D&I office activities with a strong emphasis on the design, coordination, implementation and evaluation of science/medical educational pipeline programs and community outreach initiatives. This position is directly responsible for management of programs designed to cultivate interest in the sciences with students of all ages. Additionally, the Assistant Director in collaboration with the Assistant Dean will be responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of initiatives related to the department's and college strategic goals.

SCIENCE/MEDICAL PIPELINE PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:
Develop new and enhance existing pipeline programs including curricula design, organization and implementation and evaluation. The position is directly responsible for management of programs that are designed to cultivate interest in the sciences and to increase the number of students of all ages entering the medical and health professions. Enhance and maintain partnerships and collaborations between the College and other local, state and national partners on initiatives that prepare pre-health students for success in college, graduate and professional programs and careers in the healthcare industry. Recruit students, facilitate application & selection process, communicate w/ parents, travel to institutions, collect & interpret data & implement mechanisms to track student progress/achievement over time. Advise students regarding their health career progress, facilitate standardized test preparation, & provide leadership in enhancing services to students through office programs/initiatives. Organize and implement group information sessions and conduct one-on-one conversations with prospective students, providing information and advice on admission policies and procedure and curriculum. Develop and oversee marketing, website and social media outlets for programmatic activities.

RECRUITMENT, RETENTION, AND OUTREACH ACTIVITIES:
Communicate with pre-health advisors & local/regional/national educational organizations to attract students who enhance diversity in College programs. Develop & manage initiatives designed to enhance diversity at medical education campus recruitment events, including applicant interview days, pre-medical student conferences tours and other events. Advise pre-medical and medical student groups and collaborate with other UCF campus groups (including the Pre-Health/Pre-Law and Trio programs) to support students from diverse backgrounds in preparing for medical careers. Identify, develop and manage outreach opportunities in diverse communities, organizations, and programs to support the College diversity efforts and mission. Work collaboratively with other office staff to implement and evaluate events and activities related to the office outreach programs. Create and maintain strategic partnerships with external constituencies such as Community Outreach partners and UCF "Inreach" partners. Design, implement and evaluate Community Based Participatory Research on health disparities.

EVALUATION, FUNDING SUPPORT AND MANAGEMENT:
Design research projects, conduct data collection, and analyze/evaluate outcomes for office programs. Conduct assessments and surveys for tracking effectiveness; prepare annual evaluation reports on programs; help develop and implement strategies to strengthen office programs. Identify, write and manage grants in collaboration with the Assistant Dean and other stakeholders and other funding sources to support programmatic activities. Write and prepare manuscripts in collaboration with the Assistant Dean and other stakeholders on research related to office initiatives.

ADMINISTRATIVE AND GENERAL DUTIES:
Assist the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion in the development, implementation evaluation and maintenance of initiatives related to the Strategic Goals in the 4 areas of 1) Recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, students and staff. 2) Education and scholarship that advances health equity. 3) Culture management to demonstrate diversity and inclusion as core values and 4) Meaningful community engagement that advances Work with the Assistant Dean to recruit, hire, train and supervise staff, graduate educators, teaching assistants instructors, student employees, volunteers and student groups involved in recruitment and outreach initiatives and programs. Collaborate with faculty to develop and deliver curriculum related to office initiatives. Manage and oversee budget travel procedures for office in conjunction with office staff members. Cultivate relationships with key internal and external constituents within the community and on UCF Main campus; establish and maintain liaisons with identified partner institutions, alumni, and national agencies. Assist with strategic planning and implementation to meet office, college, and university goals.

Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience with at least 1+ year(s) of leadership experience.




Preferred Qualifications:



  • PhD or DrPH or other doctoral level training in Public Health, Community Health, Health Disparities or related areas.
  • Knowledge of developmental and academic stages of students from elementary to high school knowledge of medical school admission requirements and competencies as well as the cognitive and non-cognitive areas for undergraduates to be successful in application and transition to medical school.
  • Knowledge of health career pathways and LCME accreditation standards for diversity and inclusion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, communication, presentation, writing and analytical skills; proven ability to communicate, negotiate and work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficient in general accounting principles and analytical abilities.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain constructive, cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to manage confidential, political and occasionally controversial circumstances.
  • Highly organized and detailed oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Work well under pressure; able to meet deadlines.
