Job Description:

The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for managing the daily operations of the Sport Clubs and Athletic Training Programs. This position supervises two A&P coordinators, one graduate assistant, and approximately 15-20 student employees. The Assistant Director also provides leadership for the Sport Club Council and its approximately 3,700 Sport Clubs participants. Reports directly to the Associate Director of Programs.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Administer a comprehensive Sport Clubs Program with over 42 active clubs and 3,700 participants.

  • Provide administrative oversight for the Athletic Training and Risk Management program.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop two Coordinators and the Sport Clubs graduate assistant.

  • Monitor and oversee various budgetary lines and assist in the budget development related to the management of all program areas.

  • Coordinate daily practice and game schedules, travel procedures and requirements, facility reservations and membership policies of the Sport Clubs program, and ensure appropriate Athletic Training coverage.

  • Maintain the Sport Clubs Council website, membership database, and online forms via the RWC's content management software.

  • Recommend policies and procedures for practices, events, and tournaments sponsored by the individual Sport Clubs. Develop, implement, and evaluate policies relating to all areas of responsibility. Develop and implement comprehensive leadership program for Sport Clubs Council members.

  • Work with university and community medical partners to provide appropriate care for students who seek Athletic Training services. Provide a daily administrative review of all Recreation and Wellness Center injury reports after initial follow up by Athletic Training staff and recommend necessary action for appropriate risk management review.

  • Participate in the Recreation and Wellness Center's Diversity Committee and help coordinate efforts for departmental, campus and community diversity education, and experiential events.

  • Work closely with Student Government to meet goals, objectives, and expectations of one of their primary funded agencies.

  • Maintain inventory and recommend purchase of equipment for all program areas of responsibility.

  • Coordinate the completion of assessment initiatives for areas of responsibility.

  • Supervise coordination of program marketing efforts.

  • Manage the conduct process for violations of program policies. Coordinates with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibility as required.

  • Responsible for execution of Risk Management plan in areas of responsibility.

  • Serve as an instructor for First Aid/CPR and AED classes.

  • Serve on the Recreation and Wellness Center Leadership team and contribute to decision making process for entire RWC department.

  • This position/classification may be moved at management's discretion within the SDES division to a commensurate level position as determined by the Vice President of Student Development and Enrollment Services (SDES) and their designee.

    Work Schedule:

    Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM To 5:00 PM. This position requires routine evening and/or weekend supervision due to the nature of program activities.

    $48,722 to Negotiable

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's and 4+ years of relevant experience or Masters degree and 2+ years of relevant experience with at least 1+ year(s) of leadership experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Masters degree in Educational Leadership, Student Personnel Administration, Sports Management, or a related field

    • Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Certification

    • Experience working in a university recreation setting and proving oversight for Sport Club and/or Athletic Training programs

      High level participatory programs and/or use of recreation facilities on a daily basis poses unique management opportunities.

      Sport Clubs programs often occur during the weekends and evenings and requires a flexible schedule to accommodate programs.
