Job Description:
Overview
As part of a design team or independently, the primary
responsibilities of the Engineer will be to manage the planning and
design of traffic elements associated with transportation and
development projects. Duties may include preparation of traffic
studies, design of traffic signalization, signing & pavement
marking, maintenance of traffic and ITS/Fiber design.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS(may include but are not limited to):
Prepare traffic studies associated with land development projects,
school projects or roadway improvement projects with the assistance
of junior staff.
Study elements would include:
Trip Generation.
Traffic Growth Projections.
Roadway Capacity Computations.
Intersection Operational Analysis using traffic simulation
software, such as SYNCHRO.
Update of Regional Traffic Models as needed to support project
specific studies.
Coordination of traffic counts and use of on-line systems such as
Streetlight.
Manage Traffic Warrant Studies with the assistance of junior
staff.
Perform Roundabout Analysis.
Perform Intersection Control Evaluations.
Perform Crash Analysis Reports.
Prepare project layouts to assist in the implementation of the
recommendations of the traffic report or study.
Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work; works
on multiple projects of small to moderate size or portions of major
projects using time efficiently to stay within budget and deliver
on time.
Prepare Signalization Plans.
Prepared Signing and Pavement Marking Plans.
Assist with Business Development for new traffic related
assignments and with roadway projects that naturally include
traffic elements.
Attend community meetings related to traffic studies / impacts.
Review Roadway Plans prepared by AVCON Staff to ensure the traffic
recommendations have been implemented.
Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally
be necessary with little or no advanced notice.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
10+ years of experience.
Working knowledge of SYNCHRO, required.
Working knowledge of ITS design, desired.
Working knowledge of MicroStation and Bentley GEOPAK Civil
Engineering Suite V8i, desired.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, desired.
Working knowledge of Civil 3D, desired.
Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels
of employees, management, and clients.
Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines,
and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision.
Ability to maintain confidentially and protect privileged client
information and documents appropriately.
Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high-volume office
environment under pressure of heavy deadlines.
Knowledge of correct English usage including spelling, grammar,
punctuation, and vocabulary.
LICENSURE
Valid drivers' license and maintenance of satisfactory driving
record.
Registered Professional Engineer (PE), preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no immediate supervisory responsibilities associated with
this position. Although the Engineer may direct other staff to
assist in preparation of plans, studies and reports, with the goal
of creating a traffic group with staff reporting to this
position.
ENVIRONMENT
Work usually takes place in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable
office setting. Site visits may occasionally take place in an
outdoor environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to
sit for long periods of time. The employee is occasionally required
to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with
hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or
crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10)
pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific
vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color
vision, and ability to adjust focus.
TOOL/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
As dictated by client site protocol, candidate will be required to
utilize proper personal protective equipment including but not
limited to gloves, sleeves, leather protectors, hard hats, safety
glasses and shields, safety shoes, covers, and helmets/hoods.
