This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our Altamonte Springs (Orlando), FL team. The candidate will support projects in the southeast US, to provide geotechnical/materials engineering services for infrastructure, transportation, and water resources related projects. The candidate will perform project management duties including marketing, proposal preparation, project execution, staff coordination, project financial performance and quality control.
Your Impact



  • Typical projects include site investigation, dams and levees inspection, transportation, utilities and other civil works projects.


  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assisting with laying out installations, foundations, slopes, retaining structures, embankments, and other systems that are made or supported by soil or rock, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.


  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or problems.


  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.


  • Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.


  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).


  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.


  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.


  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


    Who You Are
    Required Qualifications


    • 3+ years of experience in geotechnical investigation and design, preferably in the areas of dams and levees / water resources & transportation infrastructure


    • Ability and willingness to travel and perform fieldwork


    • Good understanding and knowledge of geotechnical engineering and related disciplines (Structures, Civil, Environmental, and Planning)


    • Experience with drilling, field investigations, and laboratory testing


    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (ability to communicate effectively with clients, regulators, other disciplines, managers, and other staff)


    • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.


    • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.


    • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies


    • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook


    • Must pass background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy


      Preferred Qualifications


      • Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of Florida, or ability to obtain a Florida PE within one year


      • Prior design experience


      • A member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organizations
