Job Description:
Endowed Department Chair, Department of Accounting The Mitchell
College of Business at the University of South Alabama in Mobile,
Alabama is seeking to fill the Jeanne Sylvestre Endowed Chair in
Accounting, and Department Chair. The start date for this position
is August 15, 2024. College/Department Summary: The University of
South Alabama (USA) Mitchell College of Business (MCOB) offers the
BSBA degree with several majors that include Accounting, Finance,
Economics, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and
International Business. The Mitchell College also offers an MBA
degree program and a PhD in Business Administration with
concentrations in Marketing, Management, and Business Analytics.
The Department of Accounting also offers the Master of Accounting
degree. The Mitchell College of Business and the Department of
Accounting are accredited members of the Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The Department of
Accounting is one of only approximately 187 accounting programs in
the world with additional AACSB accreditation. Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Dean of the Mitchell College of Business,
the Department Chair provides leadership and service to the
department, the college, and the university community while
contributing to a positive collegial culture. Responsibilities
include: 1) leading the Accounting Program AACSB Accreditation
process and program assessment efforts ensuring that the curricula,
research, and goals of the department are aligned with the MCOB and
USA strategic plan and mission, 2) managing the budget and the
administration of the department, such as staffing and scheduling
courses, 3) participating in outreach activities with external
stakeholders, accounting professionals, and academic colleagues
throughout the region and state, 4) organizing and maintaining
effective relations with the Department of Accounting advisory
board, 5) providing effective leadership and evaluation of
department faculty, 6) teaching undergraduate and/or graduate
courses as required, 7) continuing a program of successful
scholarship and research, 8) performing the duties of the Director
of the Master of Accounting program, 9) participating in the
leadership of the College along with the Dean, Associate Deans, and
other Department Chairs, and 10) performing other duties as
