Education - Doctoral Degree - Bachelor's Degree Skills - Teaching Experience - Writing Skills - Academic Advising - Marketing - Growing Experience Job no: ****** Work type: Faculty Location: Main Campus (Orlando) Categories: Arts & Humanities Classification Title: Associate Professor and Coordinator of Undergraduate Programs Administrative Title: Coordinator Job Description: The Department of Writing and Rhetoric (DWR) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking an experienced scholar administrator to direct its undergraduate degree programs (including a major or B.A., minor, and undergraduate certificate). This is a 9-month position with a typical teaching load of 1/1 that includes reassigned time for administrative duties. An administrative stipend is provided to support the work of the programs in summer terms. Teaching responsibilities will typically include upper-division courses in writing and rhetoric studies, graduate courses, and occasional first-year writing courses. Administrative duties will include overseeing the following as they relate to undergraduate degree programs: Scheduling and staffing of upper-division courses; Course and curriculum changes or itions; Outreach, marketing, and student recruitment; Advising processes and support, including for new student orientation; Program assessment; Faculty development; Co-curricular opportunities (e.g., events, publications, Honors in the Major, etc.); Alignment with college and university goals (e.g., around student engagement and high-impact learning). The coordinator is supported by a programmatic team that currently includes a staff member with d responsibilities for the composition, undergraduate, and graduate programs; two faculty academic advisors or coordinators; and a faculty member supporting high-impact practices. The coordinator will work closely with the department chair, the undergraduate programmatic team and faculty committee, and other program directors and coordinators in the department to support and enhance the writing experience and success of UCF students. DWR is a vibrant, independent department. It employs 14 tenure-earning Rhetoric and Composition faculty members, 26 instructors and lecturers, and 17 graduate teaching assistants in its ongoing efforts to support comprehensive, vertical writing instruction that includes an award-winning first-year composition program; an undergraduate major (B.A.) in Writing & Rhetoric, minor, and certificate; a M.A. in Rhetoric & Composition and graduate certificate in professional writing, and; a Center for Writing Excellence that includes the University Writing Center and the Writing Across the Curriculum Program. The department's upper-division programs feature, among other elements, an undergraduate research journal; a student-edited-and-produced online magazine; an annual Knights Write Symposium; several undergraduate student organizations; support for student internships and e-portfolio creation; courses designated with service-learning, research, and integrative learning emphases, and curricular threads that include professional writing and editing, civic and cultural rhetoric, and digital and multimodal communication. Department: College of Arts and Humanities, Department of Writing and Rhetoric Type of Appointment: Regular Advertised Annual Salary: Negotiable Minimum Qualifications: - Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or related field from an accredited institution; - At least four years of experience teaching college-level writing and rhetoric, including some upper-division courses; - Substantial experience advising students (which can include advising as an instructor); - A record of scholarship, teaching, and professional service/leadership commensurate with a tenured appointment, pending a successful tenure vote and approval by the Board of Trustees; - At least two years of significant experience serving in some administrative capacity for a program; - Experience with course and curriculum development; - A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion. Preferred Qualifications: - A nationally recognized record of scholarship in some area(s) of writing, rhetoric, and literacy, ideally building on one or more of the department's research strengths or ressing one of our gaps or needs; - At least two years of experience directing an academic program; - Experience in marketing and growing a program, and a commitment to recruiting diverse student populations; - Expertise and interest in using digital media in writing and rhetoric pedagogy and developing innovative online and hybrid writing courses and program-level curricula; - A record of facilitating professional development opportunities for faculty, particularly those new to teaching upper-division courses; - A demonstrated commitment to curriculum revision in response to assessment results, students' changing needs, and the scholarship of the field. itional Application Materials Required: The target start date is August 8, 2020, but the position will remain open until filled.
