Job Description Job Description Job Summary We are seeking a
Geotechnical / Civil Construction Estimator to prepare accurate,
competitive bids and cost estimates for our specialized
geotechnical and civil infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate
will have strong expertise in estimating deep foundations, ground
improvement techniques, earth retention systems, and heavy/civil
construction, while collaborating closely with project teams,
engineers, subcontractors, and public agencies. Key
Responsibilities Review project plans, geotechnical reports,
specifications, FDOT standards, and addendums to perform detailed
quantity takeoffs for deep foundations, ground improvement, earth
retention, and related civil work Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate
pricing from specialized subcontractors, material suppliers, and
vendors (e.g., for drilled shafts, micropiles, helical/push piers,
compaction grouting, sheet piles, tiebacks, etc.) Prepare
comprehensive, accurate cost estimates including labor, materials,
equipment, mobilization, subcontractors, general conditions,
overhead, profit, bonding, and risk/contingency for geotechnical
and civil projects Develop conceptual budgets and preliminary
estimates during design-build or preconstruction phases, often with
limited details or challenging site conditions Collaborate with
engineers, geotechnical consultants, DOT representatives, project
managers, and clients to clarify scope, perform value engineering,
and address design changes or site-specific challenges Assemble
professional bid packages and supporting documentation. Maintain
and update unit cost databases, historical project data, and
estimating templates specific to geotechnical/civil work in Florida
Support project handoff to field operations, including estimate
breakdowns, buyout support, and job cost tracking Track awarded
projects to compare actual vs. estimated costs and continuously
improve accuracy for future bids Required Qualifications & Skills
1–3 years of proven estimating, management or engineering
experience in geotechnical construction , deep foundations , ground
improvement , earth retention , or civil infrastructure projects
(FDOT/DOT experience strongly preferred) Strong understanding of
civil construction sequencing, site preparation, soil conditions,
and Florida-specific challenges (e.g., high water tables,
sinkhole-prone areas) Proficiency in construction estimating
software Ability to read and interpret geotechnical reports,
structural drawings, civil plans, and FDOT specifications Excellent
analytical, mathematical, and detail-oriented skills with the
ability to manage multiple bids under tight public agency deadlines
Strong communication and negotiation abilities — comfortable
working with engineers, owner’s representatives , subcontractors,
and internal teams. Valid driver's license and reliable
transportation (site visits and project reconnaissance required)
The role involves regular site visits and requires the physical
ability to traverse active construction environments, including
uneven surfaces, confined or elevated areas, and locations
requiring climbing, walking, or maneuvering around obstacles
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering,
Construction Management, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field
Knowledge of geotechnical methods and materials, including drilled
shafts, micro piles, helical/push piers, compaction grouting, sheet
piles, tiebacks/anchors, and related systems Direct experience
bidding on FDOT , municipal, or transportation infrastructure
projects in Florida Familiarity with design-build processes, value
engineering for geotechnical solutions, and earth retention/shoring
systems Knowledge of current Florida market pricing for specialized
geotechnical materials and labor Previous work with public sector
bidding requirements, bonding, and prevailing wage Company
